i fell asleep on the bus
no dreams to tell of my daze
woke up at the plane port
NO SMOKING
i roll a cigarette and enjoy
my last one before landing
Drag Drag Ash Ash
i step inside
an elevator or an escalator
i wanna use my legs
up the down
atop i see the king
the king of what you wonder?
The Burger King and he's got everything
plus great deals
on hormone infested processed and dyed meat
he knows all so i OBEY
sweet BK's got veggie-bs
"sorry sir were out of these"
scratch that--grease infused non-biodegradable french fry time
TAKE THAT HEART <3
two Starbucks within 50
in the terminal
MUST GET FUEL
WHERE IS OUR LEADER?
I'LL GET A NONFAT SOY MOCHA LATTE
caffined spliffed cigarette of a day
drifting through the airport
as i await my fly through the sky
watching frenzied over-worked travelers
hustle along with their laptop bags clicking behind
click click click
wound up tight like a yoyo about to drop
rushing to their flight
for another single-use shampoo hotel night
for a house on a street thats just right
i wander into the news shop
Flatter Abs
Job Crisis
Celebrity Mags
blah blah blah
yadda yadda yadda
ohh sour candy my favorite
sour gummy worms, mmm...
op...gellatin, no cow hooves for me
i stroll to gate 16B
to soar into the air
with a sweet apple pie
"sir, thatll be $5.95"
those mutha fuckas
Ah, we've all been there. I think the worst thing about the no-smoking rule on planes and in airports is that they KEEP FUCKING REMINDING YOU EVERY 5 SECONDS that there is no smoking. Seriously, I could go 8 hours without a smoke, but it makes it a hell of a lot harder when you're constantly being reminded that you'll go to prison if you so much as flip open your pack.
ReplyDeleteAnyway.
It was a fun poem. I like how you punk the banality of our culture as it is contained in the airport by both examining it from a counter-culture perspective and categorically analyzing its contents (the line about the nastee burgers.) The light rhyming was cool, and I also enjoyed the rhythm of this piece. Maybe it's because I've heard your awesome spoken word style, but I could definitely hear you speaking the words as I read it. This might be a fun one to slam.
And out of curiosity, where were you flying?
I miss our class :( But keep writing, I want to read more of your stuff!
